Cornell is located in the northwestern part of Chippewa County. Nestled on the banks of the Chippewa River, the city is a center for area history and year-round recreation. The city has the only remaining pulpwood stacker. Cornell is also a trailhead for the 20-mile Old Abe Trail.
Cornell offers small town hospitality, featuring a variety of stores and shops, a medical clinic, bowling alley, theater, restaurants, taverns, and a community center. The largest employers are Mulehide Manufacturing, Wisconsin Truss Inc., Cornell Corporation, Custom Machine Products and Larson's Custom Cabinets.
