History

Chippewa Falls was settled in 1836 on the Chippewa River, growing on a pioneer industry of logging and fur trading. Our immigration population of German, French, Scandinavian, and Irish is the foundation for our strong work ethic which endures today.

By the 1850s, this lumbering town’s area sawmills were producing 100,000 board feet of lumber per day, boasting at one point the largest sawmill in the world under one roof.
